Blessings from RuneSociety!
By: C12 ~ Posted On: December 23, 2008

Hey there gang! RuneSociety is dedicated to giving you the best; and despite our hardwork, we bring you a new chat system. Instead of the Java Based IRC (which few of us used), a new ShoutBox / Chat System has been integrated into our community discussion board! It is less resource intensive as our recent Java Based IRC, and it is a lot friendlier.

We encourage you to all stop by and register on our community forums; we have a lot to offer there (and who knows, you may make a friend or two along the way)! We encourage you to check it out and maybe make a post or two on our Community Forum Boards, which can be found by clicking here.

During these holidays RuneSociety wishes you blessings, stay warm and safe!

Chatting, Skins and a New Toolbar...
By: Darcy ~ Posted On: September 08, 2008

Hi RuneSociety! A project that we have been working on is now completed, it allows you to talk to other people who join this wonderful chatting solution. It's IRC! Thank's to Matt and I we have finished the IRC Channel for RuneSociety! You can join by going on the client provided in this topic or you can use our very own Java-Based client located here. You can thank Matt for all his hard work. I have provided the download to mIRC in the specified community post. We all hope you enjoy RSOC IRC!

In other news, we have successfully installed two new themes for the forumsd and possibly could be adding new ones soon! We've got the sexy Elegant theme and the Dark-Blue theme. Both are very popular and are being worshipped throughout the community so we hope to see you on there! As for new themes we are thinking on making a Black-Silver theme and maybe to re-add the XGaming Theme (Midnight). Hope to see you guys on soon!

Another new feature is a project that I have recently been working on. This is the RuneSociety Official Toolbar and it is now completed. We have many features including A Live News Ticker, Radio, In-Built Messenger and RSS Feeds straight from www.RuneSociety.com.

We care about privacy and safety so we try our best to keep everything clean and virus free. You can download the toolbar from here. Some requirements for the toolbar are Windows, Mac or Linux and Firefox 2.0+ or Internet Explorer 5.0+.

Enjoy!

Crank The Wheel!
By: Full Mith ~ Posted On: September 07, 2008

Hey Runesociety. Some of the Content Crew have been working hard and adding some neat content for the site. For starters, the long awaited Fist of Guthix guide is out which can be found here. Thanks to Ice for writing this great guide.

That wasn't all that has been happening, but we have also added a few quest guides several days ago that you may be interested in. These guides are All Fired Up, Hazeel Cult, and Meeting History. Thanks to Full Mith and Darcy for these guides as well. Also a special thanks to Happylolmm for the images on Hazeel Cult quest guide.

That's all for now, however, keep checking in for updates.

August News
By: Soulblade102, Content Staff ~ Posted On: August 19, 2008

Hey there RuneSociety people! We would like to apologize for the lack of updates on news this summer. But don't worry! We have good reason. This summer, our content team has been cranking out content, images, and anything else thats useful for RuneSociety. If you visit the quest guides section, you will notice that there are a significant number of guides compared to before. They have also re-wrote and added images to many of the existing guides.

Also with the launch of RuneScape HD we have started to migrate our image databases. If you visit sections like the item database, or monster database, you will start to see higher resolution images. We are proud to say RuneSociety is the first fansite to start making an effort to do that. Finally, in other news, our side project, The RuneScape Blog is going great. It is still growing and gets visitors often. Please help the project progress and read our blog! Thats all for now folks! We'll be sure to post more soon.

Skill Calculators
By: Soulblade102 ~ Posted On: May 22, 2008

Hello again, so i remember a long time ago i mentioned the work on the Skill calculators. I know it's been a long time since i did that but they have finally reached BETA phase. Making calculators is no easy task and i must say this was one of the things i put much work into. The calculators are fully AJAX powered, meaning there is no refreshing required, all data is called via javascript. That means people who don't have javascript enabled cannot use these calculators. I know a few people might complain, but honestly if you don't have javascript enabled, you should not be on the internet.

The calculators function in IE6+, Firefox 1.5+, and Safari 3.0+, and most other modern browsers. Most of the testing phases were conducted using Firefox and it delivers the best performance out of all the browsers. So we highly suggest if you haven't already that you switch over to firefox. So anyway, i would like to mention that the calculators are still in BETA phase, meaning, most of the common bugs have been deleted and we have not found any significant problems with our lab tests. But there still could be problems, but i would deem the calculators accurate. They use one of the most accurate algorithms on the internet. Cheers to school closing!

Introducing... The RuneScape Blog
By: Soulblade102 ~ Posted On: May 11, 2008

Hi everyone, i know its been a few months since the last news update here. And for that, i apologize. But this does not mean that RuneSociety has not been progressing. As of late, i find it much easier to post news on the forums, thats why theres a community news feed at the top, so thats where most of the announcements will go. Anyway, to get to the point of this post, i'd like to introduce the latest RuneSociety project.

The RuneScape Blog is a joint effort of both Runecrypt and of course RuneSociety. The idea was to basically have a dedicated site where RuneScape players can read articles written by people who are really experienced in RuneScape. The original idea for such a site was by me, then i contacted my friend who is known on TRB as "11" and he led the blogger application effort. Later i contacted Cmafai whom i am good friends with and we worked on setting up the site together. After the initial install and effort, he took over and made it into what it is right now. Anyway, i suggest you all take a look at it. The latest article "RuneScape: Just a game.. or an addiction" is written by me. Enjoy!

Social Tools, Core Updates, Keywords... and more.
By: Soulblade102 ~ Posted On: March 03, 2008

Hello RuneSociety Members! I know it has been a long time since the last news post and i'm sorry i don't update the news as much. But this doesn't mean we haven't been hard at work. During the last month, many changes have occurred at RuneSociety. Some are staff changes, others are site changes and some are updates. To start off with updates, the forum has been upgraded to IPB 2.3.4 and the website core has been re-modeled. This took quite a bit of work but will pay off in the future. We basically moduled each part of the website so updating and fixing certain things will be easier. This also will improve the overall performance of the site. Another major update that took place was part of the item database search engine. From our newly appointed content leader, slayeroftime, he came up with a brilliant idea of implementing a search feature using keywords and not specific naming. How does this work you may ask? Well basically, many people that search for items may not actually know the full name of the item, or they might just know the slang term. Such as "abby" whip or "ab" whip. Normally, search will not be able to locate these items, but now thanks to our new engine, this is possible.

The next thing i would like to discuss is another new feature in the item database. Have you ever wished that you could post an item's statistics on a thread in a forum or something? When you would like to refer to an item without actually having to type out the whole name and statistics? Well, we've solved that problem by creating a new share tool for our item database. Now, whenever you need to show someone an item. Just locate it in the bottom of each item page. You will see a set of 3 boxes containing 3 different codes for sharing. Heres an example of an Abyssal Whip.

Yes, its that easy. Just link, and boom. Our servers will generate an up-to-date statistic image on whatever item you choose. The next thing which you may have already noticed is the replacement of the did you know console. We decided that it was more trouble than it was worth and replaced it with a news module. This new box on the front page will keep you up to date on the latest RuneSociety news and RuneScape news. It runs with a caching engine, so constant RSS feeding will not be a big deal. We also have completed a few guides, they are located in the quest guide section and mini guide section.

The last thing i would like to inform you about is our 3 new upcoming updates. First off, i will be redesigning the whole signature system to fit the needs of mass scale usage and stress. This also means we will be getting new backgrounds and more choices. The site will also be receiving RSS feeds from the news database and runescape database. This means, you can stay up to date on the latest runescape information no matter where you are. And to wrap things up, i would like to mention that we are working on a secret project to revolutionize the runescape guide industry. So stay tuned guys!

New Year Rising! 08
By: Soulblade102 ~ Posted On: December 31, 2007

Hey everyone! Once again, another year is passing by in our lives. This year has been filled with opportunities and endeavors for all of us to enjoy and overcome. This new year means that we are 7/10's of the way to our first full year. The Holiday event in RuneScape will be ending tomorrow and we hope you all took the time to complete it and receive it's reward. We also want to wish everyone a happy and safe Holiday season.

This year at RuneSociety many things have been achieved. We gained much and lost little. RuneSociety launched back in June of this year, we were going at an OK pace and during august we were hacked due to a security vulnerability. This caused me to totally revamp the site security and move all of our data resources onto mySQL. In the long run, this was the best move that i ever made. This allowed us to create a stronger framework to support all of our database projects and everything else that is database driven. We also pushed many projects forward this year. These include our new Signatures, all 3 of our databases: Person, Monster, Item, and all the design changes we have done. We have achieved many goals this year and will continue to push forward

I would also like to thank the RuneSociety staff members for their outstanding performance since the conception of RuneSociety. Great Job Guys! These guys have done enormous amounts of work this year and definitely deserve a pat on the back or an applause. I would also like to tell everyone that we are doing a great job of adding data to our databases. We have done a great job this year everyone! I hope you all enjoyed 07 with RuneSociety!, if you haven't joined yet, remember to head over the Forums and join in the fun! Have a great Holiday season everyone! Bye
